Station W-O-L-F

Who knew there was a video for Super-Wolf's Super-Wolf Can Do It (Sugar Hill Records, 1980)? Apparently 17,300 people, as this already has a ton of views. This is news to me! Good news.... good, good, even amazing news.

Okay I'm already over it.

I respect how he chose the 10 minute long version for the video instead of the 6:30 "short" version.

... And Them Too!

I've been on a little Jeopardy kick lately. Watching television that requires thinking almost makes me feel productive. To be honest though, I mostly view to witness the awkward things humans say and do. Here's Alex Trebec in the groove:

Ho, Ho

What Christmas would be complete without a little Rudy Ray Moore (aka Dolemite)? My main man Nostalgic, the producer behind Alternate Earth and the title cut from my album Evil in the Mirror, has whipped up a dope beat using Jive Jungle from the Dolemite soundtrack.

Nostalgic- "Dolo Might"-

Like a knucklehead, I felt compelled to throw dialogue from the movie over the beat.

Here's where Jive Jungle appears in the film:

Good news- I learned how to make a youtube video play from a specific starting point, so less work for you. What I really mean is I finally fought the laziness and typed "embed youtube video starting from time" in my google sidebar. One minute later, I was a whiz kid.

Here's the track Merry Christmas Baby, from the album This Ain't No White Christmas, pictured at the top of this post:

Rudy Ray Moore- "Merry Christmas Baby"-

So there you have it, the two "Ho"s missing from my previous post. Happy Holidays!

Special thanks to Nostalgic!

Ho

Yesterday morning I was surprised to see there was a copy of the Winter Warnerland compilation CD on my chair. This is the holiday disc that contains the elusive Cold Chillin' Christmas posse cut featuring Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante, M.C. Shan and Fly Ty. I think I read somewhere that this is the only posse cut that features M.C. Shan and Big Daddy Kane together.

Cold Chillin Christmas-

Here's a paragraph from the CD liner notes:

"The rappers from Cold Chillin' got together at Marley's house to lay down this dope number featuring Big Daddy Kane, whose debut album Long Live the Kane has been Top Ten for months; M.C. Shan, who's back with I Pioneered This from his Born To Be Wild LP; and Roxanne Shante, 'Loosey' of Rick James' Loosey's Rap track. Cold Chillin' Christmas also includes the rappin' debut of Fly Ty (a.k.a. Tyrone Williams, chairman of Cold Chillin' Records."

On some real nerd stuff, I'm thinking Fly Ty's rapping debut was on Pumpkin's Here Comes that Beat! as part of the Profile All-Stars.

More importantly, Winter Warnerland contains various Pee-Wee Herman interludes:

Pee-Wee Herman- Christmas Medley-

Pee-Wee Herman- Don't Drink and Drive, Duh!-

Pee-Wee Herman- Pee-Wee Willbury ID-

It took me all day to finally find out that it was Papa D who left the CD on my chair. I should have known... he is the king of holiday hip hop. A week back he got me listening to his Profile Christmas Rap compilation cassette, something he breaks out every year in December and plays in his car all month. In the words of Main Flow on Street Pay, "What up, Papa Diesel?!"

I figured a lot of blogs will throw up the Cold Chillin' Christmas track if they haven't already, as a lot of people have been discovering it lately. So here's a little bonus audio of DJ Red Alert and Mr. Magic together on Hot 97 during a Christmas 1993 broadcast. Here, the two former radio rivals are giving each other much props:

Red: Y'all better tape this... this goes down in history!

Magic: Absolutely!

Red: Mr. Magic and Red Alert, together.
Magic: On the same radio station!

Red: At the same time!

Hot 97- Christmas 1993- Mr. Magic and Red Alert-

Red Alert also explains to Magic how they first met, which is a little fuzzy at first for Sir Juice. Awkarrrrd..? You be the judge!

Jack.. et Off!

Here's an awful remake in the works. I think everybody knows that, so I won't rant about an 80s classic. What really got me (immaturely) rolling was 1:04 in where Jackie Chan says "Jack-et off!"

Maybe it's all in my head... as a kid I obviously didn't find a way to make "wax off" dirty. I was innocent. But out of all sneaky methods Miyagi could be using to teach Will Smith's son, it's putting a jacket on and off. Some genius in writing found a way to pay homage to the wack off technique and switched it to jack off. Nay, this can't only be my corrupted imagination.

I'm ashamed for posting this.

Potholes In My Blog Exclusive: Intelligent Hoodlum – Black and Proud (Will C. Mix)

I wanted to have some fun and drop an exclusive for the boys over at Potholes in my Blog, so I decided to put together a remix of Intelligent’s Hoodlum (a.k.a. Tragedy)’s 1990 single, Black and Proud.

Download the remix, peep the video, and check out their post HERE

I am personally a huge fan of Tragedy’s first album. If you aren’t up on it, I urge you to check it out! His first two albums (Intelligent Hoodlum and Saga of a Hoodlum) were reissued as a double CD fairly recently.

With my limited skills in video editing, I tried to make this exclusive as “behind-the-scenes” as possible. The free download is the finished remix, while the video helps illustrate what went into the production and arrangement of the chopped samples.
